Service Description

OFFSHORE CANYON Yellow Fin, Blue Fin, Big Eye, Swordfish, Mahi Mahi These overnight 24-48 hour trips offer anglers lots of canyon fishing time. These trips are available July - November weather permitting. Trips may include daytime fishing for Mahi-Mahi or tuna trolling if there has been hot trolling action. The decision on what to fish for will be a 'captain's choice' depending on conditions. We will then fish for tuna during the 'sunset bite', the entire 'night bite', and the 'morning bite'. We suggest you bring a sleeping bag or blanket and pillow. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED for these trips. Trip times – Generally Canyon Tuna/Mahi Trips depart at 12PM 12:00 PM the following afternoon (the second day for 48 hour trips) Bait – Sardines and Butterfish (provided) Recommended Fishing Tackle: Tuna Rods and Reels – One stand-up type tuna rod with 2-speed 30 or 50 conventional reel (60 to 80-lb test monofilament line), one 7-foot tuna jigging rod with Penn 3/0 or Penn Jigmaster equivalent reel (50-lb test monofilament or 50 to 65-lb test braided line) Tuna Tackle – 50, 60, and 80-lb test fluorocarbon leader material, barrel swivels (provided), 5/0 to 8/0 chunking or circle hooks (6/0 chunking hooks provided), 6 to 8-oz hammer finish diamond jigs, 1 to 8-oz egg sinkers, 8 to 16-oz bank sinkers, rubber bands, Cyalume light sticks (assorted colors) Mahi Rods and Reels – One light-to-medium spinning rod (20-lb test monofilament or 30-lb braided line) for Mahi Mahi Tackle – 1/0 and 2/0 hooks, and assorted small lures and jigs Squid & Bait Rods, Reels, and Tackle – One light spinning rod and reel for squid and bait fishing (8 to 10-lb monofilament). This can be the same rod and reel used for Mahi. Bring squid jigs and sabiki-style bait catcher rigs IMPORTANT NOTE: For longer trips, if high winds prevent us from sailing at the scheduled time, we may try to sail later in the day and turn the trip into a standard tuna trip. If we shorten the trip, we will credit you the cost difference
